์๋ ! Itโs Ari, your talkative Korean friend and weekend reminder ๐ I havenโt been feeling well this week so todayโs newsletter is shorter than usual and thereโs no podcast this week ๐ Now Iโm fine so donโt worry :D Letโs start!
Yangnyeom Fried Tofu
Have you heard about yangnyeom chicken? Itโs is a variety of Korean fried chicken seasoned with a sweet and spicy sauce of gochujang, garlic, sugar, and other spices, according to Wikipedia. Though โyangnyeom (์๋ )โ literally means โmarinatedโ in Korean, it often refers to this sweet and spicy sauce. Yangnyeom sauce doesnโt have to be exclusive to chicken. It goes well with other fried food including fried tofu and fried mandu or Korean dumplings. Watch the above cooking video and try for yourself. Itโll make a great weekend snack ๐ Please donโt forget to sprinkle crushed nuts at the end!
Peanuts and sunflower seeds are my favorite nuts for yangnyeom sauce!
Last thing I want to share is a viral tweet. The original tweet is a quote from Harry Potter series, โLasโ time I saw you, you was only a baby. Yeh look a lot like yer dad, but yehโve got yer mumโs eyes.โ And the quote retweet says, โNot just Harry Potter, but also we hear this on every family holiday.โ
From today to Monday, South Korea is having a Chuseok holiday, the biggest holiday in the country. I guess weโll hear this a lot during the holiday when we meet our relatives.
Real last thing I want to share is a blog post from Duolingo which I use for my French and Chinese study Iโm proudly on my 110-day streak ๐ช The title is โThe 2,000-year history of Korean.โ Itโll make an interesting read for Korean learners!
