Did miss not getting your send last week, and hope you are OK now.
Like the recipe idea very much, but do struggle with not burning omelettes.
Your longer send is a bit more important and meaningful. And sad and worrying.
For various reasons , this subject is some thing I know a lot about. To do with my job , but also my ethical/philosophical and family upbringing.
Your story of the brave school teacher is amazingly awe inspiring. And of her students.
It is difficult to know if things are better or worse, when we look at big numbers.
Your South Korean birth rate was 6.0 in 1960 and is now 0.81 in 2020. Ours was about 3.0 then and is now 1.6. Many of my family are outliers in stats , with very very large families; like 7 -8 kids and 18 grandchildren and more grandchildren. And we are not a cult and similar with friends families.
Our domestic violence stats are nothing to be proud of, at all here.
However, they have improved, at least in the area of deaths, from 0.66 /100,000 to 0.18/100,000 in last 40 years.
But the core roots of misogyny and male dominance in relationships remains in most places.
Not all Men are Bad though, just hard to tell perhaps.
I'm worried for my Korean friends, we live in a scary world. Stay safe. Spreading the word can only help. Thank you for sharing so many references and articles, I learnt a lot.
Hey Ari, it’s been too long 🥲 but I’m glad to know you’re doing well and I’ve enjoyed your updates so far.
I was talking about the 4B movement with some friends just last night. One of them asked me if I was interested in Korean men. There was a time I was open to it but lately I’ve realized just how serious the hate directed at women is. I remember the first time I heard (through your newsletter actually) that some men were blaming women for their unemployment and that they hated the word “feminist”. I thought it was so ridiculous and I honestly didn’t take it that seriously. I thought, “Surely no one actually believes something so ridiculous and even if anyone did it would only be like one person max.”
That was a couple of years ago and as time goes on I realize how wrong I was. It still feels surreal for me when I hear about it. Just because it seems so impossible and illogical. It’s how I imagine my foreign friends feel baffled when they hear about issues of gun violence or laws in the states. It’s very sad and all I can think to do is pray for safety, peace, and wisdom (better laws, stricter punishments and more compassion in people).
I would like to make a one time pledge perhaps you can change your support so that way I have the option of making a one time pledge of $$ instead of a reoccurring monthly payments

Hello Ari , a bit of an extension and have forgotten that I can't leave your comment page, or lose it.
Always like your food stuff, and looking at some of your older things including a nice pork mince pattie dish from last year, with a segue to your more recent.
And while I totally agree with your comments about gender based control and violence and femicide and maybe how this ties in with some major male control things and confucianistic views or others (Christian Churhes not remiss). It can change
Also, wonder about the issue of financial dominance by a few big oligarchs and the second tier, and where this leaves what we call in Aus, Asperational middle class, and then the least well off.
A grim thing.
But could change with all people paying income tax, esp big companies and a sort of equitable distribution for social needs and growth, not just the military.
And last. You have not sent me any Korean music. My tastes are pluralistic.
And an old Aus song, from band Cold Chisel ( the name of a metal working tool for busting things).
The song is Khe San, and a memoir of the Vietnam War. Always in my head after Anzac Day Dawn Service celebration. More on this one day. Our perhaps most famous pubrock band. All on YouTube.
Do keep the conversation up, as learn so much.
And keeping a tally of coffee owed. Hope fully returning to work soon , so can address, Cristoffa.
Hello Ari, yet again. Your last post has sort of got me badly for a whole lot of reasons.
Many are relatively and seriously not good and widespread, like the massacres in Gaza by both sides, and how it becomes a Talking Heads thing (are you familiar with the band and the term?).
Joe Biden not shining well. A cousin and a school friend at the ICC. They don't make these calls lightly. And the legal decisions quite different.
And on a more closer story, we had a v v sad murder/suicide in Western Australia just before. A man seeking his ex wife at her friends place. She was not there, and he killed the friend and her daughter and then himself. He had a registered rifle. Story on our national broadcaster ABC.
Thank you for makiing me think of seroius things.
And re you health; have you had your Thyroid Function tested? Sorry. I know a personal question, but certainly worth checking out.
Good Evening Queensland Time, Australia, Ari.
